The Titahi Bay Fair was, by all accounts, a success! Thank you for your support of our wee business. We're tickled pink that so many of you like what we do and share our joy (and obsession) with all things Fairy and Goblin. It was so much fun meeting so many new fans and reconnecting with a few we had already met. Despite the throngs of people at the beginning, people were well behaved. A number of you asked about our strange fairy hunting kit and even got to have a listen of the Fairy noises. Where did it come from you ask? Well, here is the story.... Te Papa have found an old chest in the back of their collection. After they dusted it off they opened it and found a number of strange artifacts. They seem to belong to a fellow called Johnathon T. Foxworthy and he appears to be one of the earliest known fairy hunters. Now it seems that we have built up a bit of a reputation as the local fairiologists. So they contacted us to ask if we could help decipher the artifacts. We were of course, only too happy to help! The first item we unpacked is an old crumbly journal, bound with leather. It will take us some time to read it carefully and figure out what is inside. We did however read the first couple of pages and this is what it said: These pages contain the fruits of my labour, carefully gathered over many years in many different places. I will travel the world to seek knowledge, stories and importantly, evidence of the existence of fairies. We can't wait to find out what else is contained in those pages! The second item we unpacked is what appears to be a fairy hunting kit. That is what was on display at the fair. It contains an early recording device and once we carefully removed the tape we were able to decode and convert the sounds to a digital file. It actually contains the sounds of fairies talking to each other! We put it on our mp3 player and brought it to the fair. The kids at the Fair were fascinated! ![]() To listen to the sounds of the fairies follow this link. Watch this space for more updates about Johnathon T. Foxworthy!
